The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 8: Change versus I Told You So

The specific nuances of Carrie Underwood‘s voice is sometimes overlooked because she is just that good at belting. Since her run on American Idol, she’s developed an incredible amount of  control over her vocals. Read the rest of this entry

Video Review: ‘I Love You This Big’ by Scotty McCreery

It is a fact that I was never a big fan of Scotty McCreery during his run on American Idol 10. Sure, I’m a huge Country music fan; that’s all I grew up listening to. Despite Scotty’s natural low draw and Country persona, I always felt that something wasn’t quite there. Perhaps, it is because he “might not have too much experience,” and Country music is all about taking life lessons and cultivating a heartfelt and moving story. When I first heard “I Love You This Big,” I chuckled, mostly due to the lyrical content of the song’s hook. The more I listen to it, however, the more I understand how this track is a perfect match for Scotty. Read the rest of this entry

The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 7: Cowboy Casanova versus Undo It/Walk This Way

While on American Idol, Carrie Underwood proved that she had the pipes, but her stage presence was always lacking. Now, however, after 6 years, she has developed a charismatic and powerful stage persona.

Video Review: ‘Like My Mother Does’ by Lauren Alaina

When a golden voiced 15-year-old Lauren Alaina wowed the American Idol judges during her audition, Steven Tyler even crowned her “The One.” Her run on the TV reality competition show saw some ups (“Candle in the Wind,” “Anyway”), some downs (“Any Man of Mine”), and even some steady-as-she-goes (“I’m the Only One,” “If I Die Young,” “Flat on the Floor”) with very few fumbles, if any at all. The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 6: Praying for Time versus Stand by Your Man

With overwhelming response, I’ve decided to continue the Carrie Underwood Best Performance tourney. She has moved millions of people with her powerful voice, and now it is time for the fans to vote on their all-time best performance. The tournament continues on today with another “Covers” match up. As the brackets thin out, the choices get harder and harder to make. Read the rest of this entry

The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 5: Temporary Home versus So Small

Carrie Underwood has an impeccable talent of crafting an emotional roller coaster with her ballads. She, essentially, takes every possible gut feeling and rolls it into a whirlwind of ups and downs, turning your insides out. You could say ballads are her staple (along with boy-bashing anthems). The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 4: Desperado versus Make the World Go Away

Six short years ago, Carrie Underwood was on a little show called American Idol. While on the show, she covered songs left and right. Covering songs is sometimes not looked on in the best light, however. Carrie has been able to take others’ songs and craft them into her own.

The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 3: All-American Girl versus Wasted

This match-up was perhaps the hardest pairing so far. I would like to preface this by saying, as you vote, to remember to base it on the vocals and not preference of the songs. Read the rest of this entry

The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 2: Just a Dream versus I Know You Won’t

The last bracket was an incredibly close race. You fans certainly had a strong opinion about which Carrie Underwood performance, between “Before He Cheats” and “Last Name” (both at the Grammy’s, 2008 and 2009, respectively), was better. This time, I am slowing it down a bit with some breathtaking ballads. Read the rest of this entry

The Carrie Underwood All-Time Best Performance Tournament, Round 1: Before He Cheats versus Last Name

A couple of days ago, it dawned on me. It would be interesting to see, according to fans, what Carrie Underwood‘s best performance to date is. Currently, there is very little news surrounding the powerhouse vocalist, save for her current single (and duet) with Brad Paisley. So, I decided to start putting together a tournament of some of her best performances since her American Idol Season 4 win. Read the rest of this entry
